For They Existed
This book was written, illustrated, and bound by me. It follows the spirits of the Nanny and daughter in the Mark Twain house, inspired by the book "We Shall Have Them with Us Always": The Ghosts of the Mark Twain House" by Steve Courtney. In addition, I used Maya Angelou’s poem “When Great Trees Fall”.

To create this book, I painted the backgrounds in watercolor and added the spirits digitally. I drew the color digitally as well. I printed the “text block” on cotton percale instead of regular paper to mimic a ghostly feeling. I printed the cover on Belgian linen. Finally, I used hardcover Japanese stab binding to create a floral pattern on the side of the cover.
